Charlotte B. Tousignant, age 93, of 2722 South Hill Road #61, Gladstone died Thursday April 27, 2006 at the Emmons Adult Care Home in Hyde where she had been a resident.
Charlotte was born September 1, 1912 in the village of Schaffer, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Provost) Seymour. She was raised in Schaffer and attended the Schaffer schools until the completion of her 10th grade year, at which time, she transferred to Kingsford High School to complete the last two years of her high school education. Following high school, Charlotte began her teaching career, gaining a portion of her education from the Delta County Normal School and eventually gaining employment for the Delta County Normal School where she taught for a period of three years. Charlotte married Thomas E. Tousignant in February of 1933 and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Schaffer. Thomas preceded her in death on March 6, 1960. Once Charlotte

What saddnes I know the family is feeling, gosh I will miss her, I met this fantastic lady around 15 years ago and what a blast she was….her and her sisters, she sure could keep up with even us young folks maybe even better…lol…what fond memories I have back then right Theresa? I will never forget those days all the get togethers and fun we had. I never knew someone so sweet and caring. At the time her and Theresa were like 2 of a kind where one was so was the other and that is the way it always was I am so glad I had the priveledge to be part of the fun, it brings tears to my eyes just typing this but I know she is in a better place and with her other family members most likely continuing the fun. Party on Auntie Char! God will take care of you and your family.

That is what we all called her and forever refer to her as.
Auntie Char was a very special lady and one of my most fond memeories of her was at church one Sunday when I took my Dad’s Oldsmobile to church by myself of all things. Anyway you know as a new (young) driver you have some little instances you wish you could take back, but you can’t so here goes…..I was backing out of the parking spot and thought I had backed up enough and was pulling forward out of the spot and hit Auntie Char’s car. I just bumped her bumper a little and was so shocked I had even hit her car that I as panicking in the car. She comes walking around the corner at church of course witnessing this all happening so I could not get away. I preceded to get out of the car I am sure with a look of horror on my face not worried about the car so much, but what she was going to say!!!!!!!!!!!! But Anutie Char was very nice to me and said “oh don’t worry about it, you just knocked a little dust off the bumber that is all sweety”. What a releif! I thought she was going to kill me but no, not Auntie Char she was not that way! She might of told many people off in her day just like my Grandmother “Gertrude”, but Char always had a kind heart.
She lived upstairs of my parents house for quite a few years before buying her mobile home in Gladstone. We spent alot of time up there visiting her and of course Grandma Gerty would visit her and stay there with her sometimes so then we had the best of both worlds when they were both up there.
I know Char misses her “partner” as she has referred to her Sister Gerty since she passed and now she can be with her and all her family who has preceded her.
My condolences to all who knew “Auntie Char”, and we all know she lived a great life and she lived it right up to the end of her days.

Please extend my sympathy to the family of Charlotte Tousignant. She was an amazing person who touched so many lives through teaching, consoling, “amusing” and being a great asset to our community. When I returned to Schaffer for visits, for reunions or especially funerals, Charlotte (Mrs. Tousignant-because she was my teacher in 3&4 grades)was always there. Seeing her on those occasions was a reassurance of her caring spirit. Schaffer has lost a truly great mother, teacher and citizen. I will miss her presence, but she will not be forgotten.

Mrs. Tousignant was my 3rd grade teacher at Bark River-Harris school 34 years ago. I saw her a few years ago and she still remembered me, and always said hi to me after that when she saw me! She had a very sharp mind. She was a very strict but fair teacher and I liked her alot. I will miss seeing her alot.

I’m so sorry that I am not able to get to Aunt Charlotte’s service. I sure have a lot of good/funny memories of her from when I was growing up, and from my wedding, and from her 90th birthday party, and -hey most of these memories involve family parties! How appropriate. I’m sure Aunt Charlotte would like that. We’ll miss her, but we have a lot of good Charlotte stories and memories to share with others to help keep her memory alive. I’ve certainly already shared a few! Wish I could be with all of you – you’re in my thoughts.
