Cecelia E. McKay, 72, formerly of Escanaba passed away Friday, January 23,2004, at 7:55 AM at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Cecelia was born February 22,1931, in Naubinway, Mich., she is the daughter of Norman I. and Florence M. (Gildersleeve) McKay. Both of her parents have preceded her in death. She is survived by one aunt, Mrs. Lila (Douglas) Walker and many cousins and friends.
Cecelia was raised in and attended school in Naubinway. In December of 1991 she moved to Escanaba and took up residency at Harbor Tower. On March 2, 2003 she moved to the Pinecrest Facility. Cecelia was never married, but shared a special friendship of some 10 years with Edward Viau who preceded her in death December of 2002.
She had a keen sence of remembering significant dates in the lives of her family and friends; it seems she never forgot a birthday. Bingo, ceramics, embroidering, fishing and soaps were a few of her favorite things.
Cecelia was gifted with a deep faith in the love for Jesus. The Eucharist was very special to her. Going to church and praying for her family and her friends was very much a part of her life.
She was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church, Naubinway and St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Escanaba.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Cecelia McKay will follow with Rev. Walter J. Sheedlo officiating (her guardian for the last 24 years).
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Naubinway with burial in the Naubinway cemetery in the spring time.
