Gladstone, MICarmel M. Cannon, 89, of 615 Wisconsin Avenue, Gladstone, passed away Monday September 26, 2016 at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers following a lengthy illness surrounded by her loving family.

Carmel was born January 29, 1927 in Escanaba the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Blake) Caron. Carmel was raised in Gladstone where she was a 1945 graduate of Gladstone High School. After graduation Carmel attended St. Scholastica College in Duluth, then Northern Michigan in Marquette before moving to Milwaukee. She worked in Milwaukee, WI for a short period of time before returning to Gladstone.

Carmel was united in marriage to Francis “Hant” Cannon on April 3, 1948 and they made their home in Gladstone where they raised their four children. She was an active member of All Saints Church in Gladstone where she taught CCD and served on the Ministry of Praise. She also was a volunteer Physical Education teacher at All Saints School for many years. She was a Cub Scout leader and taught various crafts for 4-H. Carmel was a member of the Gladstone Study Club, Child’s Welfare, Friends of the Gladstone Library, and Reading Buddies.

For over 50 years Carmel and 10 of her life long friends gathered to celebrate each other’s birthday at the Stonehouse. Carmel’s hobbies included reading, golfing, sewing, embroidery, bridge, bowling, traveling and wintering in Arizona.

Her favorite times were when the entire family could be together, especially during the holidays or at their cottage at Maywood Shores.

In addition to her parents, her infant brother Blake and sister Mary Therese preceded Carmel in death.

Carmel’s family will receive friends on Saturday October 1, 2016 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow, Rev. Fr. Brian Gerber and Msgr. Jed Patrick officiating. Luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Memorial contributions in memory of Carmel may be directed to the Friends of the Gladstone Library or Delta County Cancer Alliance.
