Brian Jay Gould
“Bri-Guy”

Brian traded his steel-toed work boots in for a set of angel wings on April 10th, 2021. Brian was brought into this world on February 20th, 1970 by Seymour and Judy Gould to join his sister Diane (Mark) Randall and a few years later, his brother Scott (Patricia) Gould. Brian, with his first wife Sara (Jerry) Van Overen, had two children, Bryce and Breanna Gould. With his second wife, Angela Gould, Brian chose to raise his three stepchildren Randi Lynn Paul (Josh Parrett), Max Paul (Ashlyn Hansen), and Lew Paul (Chloe Carter) for the last 17 years. Brian also had a nephew, Hunter Garling (Morgan Schiedemeyer) who moved into the house after the rest of them left the nest. On any given Sunday, Brian could be found outside in a chair wearing slippers with socks and a pair of shorts (usually it was a pair of cut off pajama pants) with his beloved dog Wyatt by his side, waiting for the weber grill to be ready for steaks. To say he was a grill master would be an understatement. Brian had a huge heart and anyone that met him, liked him. Brian spent the last 32 years as a heavy equipment mechanic, and he was one of the best. Although he was a farmer at heart, his gardens were never prosperous but he tried. His mother tells the story of how Brian said he did not need to go to school because he wanted to help his Grandpa Haase on the farm and she had to force him to get on the bus when he was in kindergarten. He loved to hunt and fish, and like gardening, those hobbies were not fruitful either. However, anyone who had the privilege of eating Brian’s famous whitefish fries knew that he had mastered that.

Born and raised in Byron Center Michigan, he moved to the Upper Peninsula 9 years ago and he became a yooper at heart. Brian had several friends and family downstate and in the U.P. Brian loved to tease his many nieces and nephews. Uncle Brian was always good for a laugh. Most often those laughs always ended with his famous ……”Ohhhh Yaaa”

Brian is survived by all of those listed above and many more. Brian was preceded in death by his niece Holly Randall, Grandparents Arthur and Edna Gould and Don and Helen Haase.

The family is having a memorial service to celebrate Brian’s life at Grace Church, 528 28th Street, Gladstone, MI 49837 at 6:30pm on Tuesday, April 27th, 2021. Please come and join his family as we share in our many memories of Brian, and please stay after the service to enjoy food, refreshments, and fellowship.

Well written. Brian will be missed by all those who had the privilege to meet him. He became an instant friend from the word “Hello”.
    Until we meet again….

Brian, you were one of the “good ones”. Peace to your loved ones during this time of heartache and loss.

Brian was such a gentle soul. After just a five minute conversation on your first meeting with him, he became an instant friend for life. He was taken way too soon and will be greatly missed by so many. Luckily, his great personality, gentle smile, and fond memories will live in our hearts forever….”Oh….Yaaaaa….”

We met Brian while camping. Every summer we looked forward to seeing Brian and Angie at the campground. His whitefish had us standing in line. He truly was a Yooper at heart. When we are sitting around the fire, in the beautiful Hiawatha; we will remember him with laughter and tears.
