Brady Lee Nelson, age 59, of Escanaba passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Brady was born December 19, 1953 in Manistique, Michigan, the son of Harley and Lois (Foye) Nelson. Brady had a heart for people; caring, helpful, compassionate, and honest. He served as a council member with the City of Escanaba, and very active within his community, a substitute teacher, predominately with the Hannahville Schools, a member of Kiwanis and the Toast Masters.

Brady was committed to his family and enjoyed spending time with them always, he was a spirited person during holidays. He enjoyed entertaining loved ones, cooking, sports, playing his guitar, riding his motorcycle, and was an avid Packer fan.

Brady is survived by three sons, Brady Ray (Bethany) Nelson, Linsey Evan (Dayna) Nelson and Paul Joseph Nelson, all of Delta County; three grandchildren, Lilyan, Elaine and Raymond; his mother, Lois Nelson of Manistique, MI; his brother, Dean (Dawn) Nelson of Brooklyn Center, MN; three sisters, Kim (Larry) Berger of Cedar Lake, IN, Kelli (Tom) Smith of Manistique, MI, and Karla (Bill) Roddy of Wausaukee, WI; numerous loved nieces and nephews and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, and his grandparents, Leo and Beatrice Foye and Brady and Lillian Nelson Larson.

Brady’s family will recieve friends, at his home on Saturday, June 22 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with services celebrating his life to be held at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be served immediately following the service.

The Nelson family is being assisted by the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.

    “Seize the day and make the most of every opportunity”

    I can recall hearing Brady say this on more than one occasion. He never let his health or personal issues stand in his way. He was a good teacher, mentor, father, and son. He will be missed by many.

    I have just learned of Brady’s passing. When he came to work at WJPD in Ishpeming in the mid 70’s, I was a young announcer. Brady became a great friend — to the point that I viewed him as a big brother. He mentored me in radio and in life. I will never forget you, my friend.

    So sorry to hear of Brady’s passing, we were great friends in Jr/Senior High School. Many great memories, from what seems like a long time ago

    I had a great visit with Brady at our 40th high school reunion. He was so happy and feeling so good its hard to believe he’s gone. I know he loved his family with all his heart and was so proud of his boys, and was loving being a grandpa. I know he worked tirelessly for the city of Escanaba and he leaves a hard to fill void on the city council. Rest in Peace my good friend and I hope your family finds small comfort in knowing that you have no more illness.

    Both myself and my wife Trish were also high school classmates of Brady and had a good visit with him at last year’s class reunion. Brady was a good person and I am sure a great father and grandfather…..he was a “class act” and will surely be missed by all. Our deepest sympathies to his family as you mourn his passing. We hope your sadness can in time be overwhelmned by your happy memories.

    My family and I are so saddened by Bradys death. He was such a nice young man……way too young to leave us. Will be praying for him.

    I knew Brady as a kid on Delta Avenue. He was a good boy who grew up to be a very good man. He will be missed by all. I will keep all the Nelsons in my thoughts and prayers. Sandy Settergren

    I had a lot of laughs with Brady during the WBDN days,and afterward as well, I looked forward to seeing him and benefitted from his wisdom while at Bay College,and he was willing to help people out as a good guy would …RIP Brady, and condolences to your family.

    Brady had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a hard worker. We worked at CUPPAD together and we spent much of that time laughing. I also enjoyed running into him in the hallways at school while he was teaching. Brady was a good guy.

    We just learned of Brady’s passing. Brady was indeed a very caring person and he gave of himself to the community. We are saddened by his loss.
