Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Murchie, age 82, of 506 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone, MI died Tuesday morning August 3, 2004 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she was a patient.
Elizabeth was born March 12, 1922 in Escanaba the daughter of William and Leona (Stock) DeKeyser. She was raised in Gladstone and was a 1939 graduate of Gladstone High School. She continued her education in nursing and received her R.N. degree from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Green Bay in 1941. Betty had worked as a R.N. in Flint, Marquette, the Milwaukee Children?s Hospital and she retired from St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Betty was a member of All Saints Church in Gladstone and her hobbies included painting and gardening. She enjoyed growing and picking berries and also collecting depression glassware. She loved sharing her vegetables and berries from her garden with neighbors and friends. Betty did volunteer work for the St. Vincent Depaul Store and was always eager to drive neighbors to church or run errands for them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on May 9, 1983 and twin sons Donald Edward and Robert Joseph on April 23, 1959.

6 Grandchildren: Rebecca Courier of Tampa, FL; Paul (Allison) Murchie of Columbus, OH; David (Murchie) of Columbus, OH; Alicia Murchie of Sarasota, FL; Phillip (Danelle) of Lochbie, CO; Christina Murchie of Orlando, FL
1 Great Grandson: Alex Murchie of Denver, CO
Betty’s family will receive friends on Friday August 13, 2004 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Murchie will follow at 1:00 P.M. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Arnold Grambow of All Saints Church officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will follow the luncheon at Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Memorials may be directed to the Murchie family for a memorial fund to be established at a later date.
