David and Barbara joined Gladstone Memorial UMC when I was the pastor, we were about the same age. She was attracted to the church because of it’s initial emphasis on mission and community service to which she made outstanding contributions. A highly committed Christian she once called on some parishioners that were not happy with the pastor (I can’t imagine why) and told them they needed to increase their support for the Church and they would see their attitude change. They did. Her and David made some difficult decisions to hold true to their convictions. I have often counseled young pastors. “Be careful what you preach because there will be some, at least, who believe it and act it out in their lives, sometimes at a great cost.” May God continue to be real and present in your lives.Rev. Bill and Suzanne Verhelst
