Barbara Ellen Carlson, age 59, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba. She was born on January 21, 1965 in Escanaba, the daughter of Lester and Virginia (LaBumbard) Carlson. She grew up in Gladstone, later moved to Escanaba, and had resided at Christian Park Center for the past 6.6 years.

 

Barbie enjoyed being around people and had a remarkable ability to remember names and family details of everyone she met. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. She especially loved dogs, playing cards and bingo, coloring pages, and diet soda.

 

She is survived by brother Brad Carlson; sisters Marla (John) Moore, Sally (Bob) Olsen, and Brenda Brunette; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death very recently by her sister Linda Mahoney on May 28, 2024; infant brother Richard; as well as her parents.

 

The family would especially like to thank all the caregivers and staff at Christian Park Healthcare Center for their loving care and concern over the years.

    Barbie was a special lady. I enjoyed growing up with her down on North 17th. She always had a smile on her face when she would stop by to see me while shopping at Walmart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.❤️

    Thinking of all of you at this difficult time. It’s not easy to lose one sister let alone two within a month. Barb was a delight. She wanted to be best friends with me like she did with anyone she met. It’s been decades since I’ve seen her or any of you but I have fond memories of her being your mom’s shadow. Take good care of your hearts.

    Barbie was very special to the DeMay family. This makes me sad, but she is surely with Jesus and her beloved Mom and Dad, and now sister Linda. Not only great neighbors, but Barbie was my mom’s godchild. So sorry to the Carlson family for 2 deep losses. You are in my prayers

    I’m so sorry to hear the passing of Barb. We had many good times together many years ago. I always enjoyed her company.

    Auntie Barb gave the best hugs ever! “Come here you handsome fella!” was always how she greeted me when we were young. Barb was a special person and will be missed by many. Rest in peace Auntie Barb. Tell Grandma Jean and Mom I love them! Hugs!

    I used to be one of Barb’s caregivers many years ago when she lived at Willow Creek Apartments. She was always happy and enjoyed time when we would go shopping, she always made me laugh. I am saddened by her passing and all my condolences to her family and friends.

    Barbwas , a very special friend for 33 years. I will miss Skyping twice of day. So hard to believe your gone. Miss you talking to Ripley ( my dog). You made my laugh when I was down. Fly hight Barb to join you family. Say hello to Rob , auntie, your mom.

    I’m one of the Physical Therapist Assistants that used to work with Barb at Christian Park Center. I will miss Barb and have good memories of her and how kind she was to me with her nice compliments every time we worked together. Barb was always cheerful and had a good sense of humor. I’m sad to hear of her passing and my condolences to her family and friends.

    The Carlson family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I grew up with barb on north 17th. She was my adopted big sister. She would come and give me baths and blow bubbles in the water. She and grandma jean gave me my first bunny. She loved everyone deeply especially her family.She loved to tease me. And she gave the best best bear hugs. I’ll miss you big sister. You are reunited with Grandma jean now. I know how much you missed her. Say hi for me.

    I am saddened by the news from Richard about Barbie’s passing. I am sure that the family is devastated. I have memories of Barbie mostly at farm that bring a big smile to my face. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

    Barbie will always be remembered for her big smile and caring spirit. I spent many afternoons with Barbie when I visited my Grandma Wila. Sending peace and comfort to Barbie’s family.

    I will always treasure the fun memories with Barb all these years. She called me “Julie Bird” and always had such a contagious smile. Thinking of her and your family. ❤️

    Barb was a fun, happy, friendly, sweet lady who was a neighbor who lived right next door to us.
    She was very complementary to us & made us feel good.
    I enjoyed her special humor & talking to her about everything.
    She will be missed by many.
    It was sad to hear about her sister Linda passing a few weeks earlier.
