Audrey Rose Martin, 94, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021 at Pinecrest Medical Care facility. She was born in Manistique, Michigan on May 6, 1927, the daughter of George and Rose Patrick. She graduated from Manistique High School in 1944. During World War II, she worked at the Mueller Brass Works in Port Huron, Michigan. She corresponded with Don Martin of the St. Ignace area, who was serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. When the war concluded she was waiting for Don at his family’s home upon his return from the Pacific and they were soon engaged. They married at Sacred Heart Church in Gros Cap, Michigan on March 6, 1946 and settled briefly in St. Ignace Michigan, before moving to her native Manistique where their children Wayne, Donna and Tim were born. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including card playing with friends, and painting landscapes and still life’s while a member of the Manistique Art Club. She and Don performed in a band for several decades, with Audrey performing on the piano and the accordion. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed travelling and was the official map reader on trips from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Closer to home she enjoyed time spent outdoors engaging in blueberry picking, and visiting her secret morel mushroom hunting grounds. She was a gifted knitter and talented cook, from canning homemade jams to making her kolache and povitica. She was an active member of her parish of St. Francis de Sales Catholic church.

Survivors include her children Wayne Martin of Sault Ste. Marie; Donna (Tony) Schomin of Escanaba and Tim Martin, of Staten Island, NY; grandson Ben (Libby) Schomin of Carlsbad, California and Rachel (Keith) Reese of Cornell, Michigan, along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Martin; parents George and Rose Patrick; her brother Ron Patrick; and son-in-law Tony Schomin.

Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11:30 AM at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Audrey will be laid to rest in the Lakeview Cemetery in Manistique. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Martin family.

    I’ve known Audrey and her family for a long time. She was like a sister to me. We grew up on Elk Street together.

    What can I say she was not only my oldest cousin but my favorite she liked to cook and I like to eat !!! She always greeted me and my partner with a great cup of coffee and a sweet pastry she always had ready at any given time !!! You were one of a kind and I loved you !! Rest in peace precious Angel until I see you again

    Audrey was like a second mom to me growing up next door to the family. I have many fond memories of spending time at her home. Sending love and prayers to the family as you send her off to her eternal home.

    Kept us neighborhood kids in line. She knew what was going on and with Johnny, Frankie, Butchie(Henry), Tommie Sheldon and me always up to something, she had to.
    Always liked going to her house ’cause there was always something going on. Lots of music and all her friend playing a lot of card games at the kitchen table.
    Great sense of humor and a great laugh I’ll always remember.
    So sorry she’s gone!

    sorry of your loss. i knew her and don as i worked at toms gas station for a few years. i remember wayne and donna but not tim. your dad worked there too. wayne you went to the navy with paul ward too. donna used to sit on my knee at toms when dad was working too. sorry again for your loss jim raredon

    Audrey was really one of a kind. She and Don were great together and we loved them. They were from Manisitique’s good old days. I’m so sorry for your loss.
