Arthur Meyer

Arthur Gilbert Meyer, age 94, of Rapid River passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Arthur was born June 9, 1922 in Door County, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur and Adelle (Reimer) Meyer. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and is a World War II Veteran. Arthur was united in marriage on July 23, 1949 in Escanaba to Mary Ann O’Donnell and together they made their home in Gladstone where they raised their four children. Art and Mary Ann owned and operated the Art Meyer’s Service Station in Gladstone until 1978 when they sold their business to their son Steve. Arthur was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone and the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to garden, canning and making wine and boating.

Arthur is survived by three sons: Steve (Barbara) Meyer of Kipling; Pete Meyer of Cornell; Jerry (Patti) Meyer of Somerset, WI; one daughter; Kathryn Cole of Gladstone; ten grandchildren; Jeremy (Jackie) Meyer, Angie (Dave) Rettick, Jessie Meyer, Michael Meyer, Katie Phalen, Steve (Amanda) Phalen, Kari (Steve) Gagnon, Scot Gabriel, Patti (Ryan) Stevenson and Tom (Carla) Meyer; eleven great grandchildren: Jersie Meyer, Daisy Meyer, Dominic Meyer, Brandley and Brendon Gagnon, Alicia Gabriel, Mathew and Alicia Meyer, Lily Rettick, Jamison Meyer and Kinsey Stevenson and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brothers, John, Edwin and Larry, his sisters, Rose Strassman and Gertrude Kahnt and a son-in-law, James Cole.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 15 from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 5:45 PM by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Closing prayers will be held at 6:00 PM. A luncheon will follow at the Gladstone Yacht Club. Arthur will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
