Arnold Harvey Eagle, age 91, of Escanaba passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Christian Park Healthcare Center .

Arnold was born February 25, 1923 in Gladstone, the son of Harvey and Laurencia (Eagle) Cartwright. He was raised in Gladstone. At the age of 17, Arnold enlisted in the United States Army. He retired from the Army in 1972 after serving for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. His duty stations included Morocco, North Africa, the Philippines, Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Benning, Georgia, Grafenwohr, Germany, Monterey, California and Fort Ord, California. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Good Conduct Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal as well as numerous other commendations and citations. Following retirement Arnold served as the head of security (Pinkerton and J.J. Security) at the Delta County Airport. Arnold was united in marriage to Liselotte Wirth on June 5, 1954 in Waschenbeuren, Germany. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing hockey and ski jumping as a youth, fishing and hunting and was an avid poker player at the casino.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Liselotte; his daughter, Patricia Eagle Swanson; two grandchildren, Natalie and Ben Swanson; four brothers, Richard McKnight, LeRoy McKnight, Jim McKnight and Elmer McKnight; five sisters, Marion Leisenring, Clara Moser, Doris Scheuren, Frances McCulley and Pat Irving and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Frances and Roy Eagle.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 21 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 4:00 PM by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Mass of Christian will be at 5:00 PM at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.

    Rest in peace Arnold. And thank you for your service to our country. I will also never forget your hard work and dedication to all 3 of my campaigns for Sheriff. It would not have been possible to win those without your help.
    I would be there now, if I could. But you are in my mind at this time of your eternal rest.

    I really did miss seeing Mr. Eagle come into Perrault’s to buy a newspaper. He was always such a happy guy. He will be sadly missed. So sorry for your loss.
