Agnes “Aggie” V. LaVigne Gerou, age 82, of Defiance, Ohio, formerly of Escanaba passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the home of her son, Bruce.

Aggie was born November 25, 1938 in Escanaba, the daughter of Frank and Victoria (Zawacki) Sliva. Aggie was raised in Escanaba and graduated from Escanaba High School in 1956. She was Catholic by faith. She married Robert (Bob) LaVigne in 1958 and they raised their family in Escanaba. During their early marriage they cared for foster children in their home. Bob died in 1996 and Aggie then studied to be a Dental Assistant at Bay College. She worked for Dr. Nyquist until her retirement. She married James Gerou on October 31, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They enjoyed traveling on their Harley and camping. James preceded her in death in 2015.

Aggie is survived by her sons, Bruce (Michelle) LaVigne of Defiance, OH and Frank (Katie) LaVigne of Escanaba; daughter, Becky (Don) Mayville of Escanaba; stepsons, Jim (Pam) Gerou of Escanaba and Matt (Cindy) Gerou of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Schlyn (Cory), Trisha (Jerry), Jaynaray (Jeff), Jesse, Gage, O’Jenna (Burt), Leanne, Tricia, Josh, Dylan and Shaelene ; great grandchildren, Alayna, Benjamin, William, Victoria, Heidi, Jeffrey, Jack, Everet and Adly; sisters, Frances Wylie of Mineola, TX and Estelle Henderson of Escanaba; sister-in-law, Celeste Sliva and Anita Couillard and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Bob and James, her parents, brothers, Walter and Frank, granddaughters, Sarah Mayville and Jessica LaVigne, step daughter, Wendy Balenger and brothers-in-law, Hank Wylie and Arne Henderson.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 20 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Memorial services will follow at 12:00 PM with Fr. Fran DeGroot officiating. Aggie will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
