Adele (Trethewey) Grimes, passed away at UP Health Systems on November 3, 2021, with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Blanche Trethewey.
Adele was born in September 1954, the youngest of 4 girls. Her father taught her many things, including his love of being a Green Bay Packers fan. After graduating Marquette High School in 1972, Adele tried her hand at waitressing. She met Paul while he was a chef at the Ramada Inn of Marquette. She didn’t know right away that he is a Detroit Lions fan. She decided to marry him anyway, in April of 1975, and had a son and daughter. Adele worked at the Marquette MFC as a bank teller and was able to relocate to Escanaba in 1986, where she continued working. When her kids graduated high school, she decided to go to Bay College and earned her Associate degree, graduating with honors in 1997.
In 2000, Adele was diagnosed with breast cancer, she worked 10 more years before she figured it was time to retire. She loved going to concerts, football games, and NASCAR races with Paul. Somehow, they managed to never fight over the Packers and Lions…
She spent a lot of time listening to music, but her truest passion was spoiling her grandkids. She was always finding ways to surprise them with gifts and treasures. She loved Sundays, not just for football and racing, but because most Sundays she spent time with those she loved and got to eat the best mashed potatoes in the world.
Adele is survived by her loving husband, Paul, children Eric (Heather) Grimes, Lisa (Jayme) Trombley, sisters, Catherine (Roy) Shaw, Eileen Trethewey, and Marcia Stephens. Grandchildren, Charles (Paighe), Shawna, Meagan, Tanisha, Kaylyne (Max), Emily, Joseph, James, and Coraline. Great grandchildren Malia, Raelyn, and Gabriel. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her cat Snickers.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. A closing prayer will take place at 5:00 PM. Adele will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Paul & family, we were so sorry to hear of Adele’s passing. So many years we have known each other and at times lost track of each other while raising our family, and life in general, but we always thought about each other and when we did talk it was like no time had past. We will miss her and we know that with time your smiles will return with all the memories of the good days you had together. Love & God Bless
