Elizabeth “Ann” Roman, age 78, of Escanaba, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, WI.

Ann was born September 29, 1942, in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of Josephine (Wagner) and Adolph John Roman. Upon graduating from Holy Name High School, she furthered her education at Northern Michigan University to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She continued on to work at OSF St. Francis Hospital for the next 50 years. Annie and friend Sue Wanic spearheaded the Serenity Garden at St. Francis Hospital. She was also a member of the OSF Women in Philanthropy.

Ann was involved in many organizations throughout the community and beyond. She had a passion for serving Veterans and was the Delta County Veterans Counselor for many years. She was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, Michigan Bikers Helping Veterans, and a board member of the UP Honor Flight Legacy. Ann was a guardian on several Upper Peninsula Honor Flights. She was an officer for the Eagles Club 1088, and a member of the UP Steam and Gas Engine Association.

Ann also loved children, donating to any organization that bettered a child’s life. She also donated to POW-MIA Hot Air Balloon Team.

Ann is survived by Nancy Gage, the daughter she never had. She had friends in every avenue of her life and will be missed dearly.

Ann was preceded in death by her Parents.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 1:00 until 4:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. A service honoring Ann’s life will follow at 4:00 PM. A reception will be held at the Eagles Club in Escanaba. Ann will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Cemetery on Friday, April 30, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Michigan Bikers Helping Veterans http://www.supportmiveterans.org and the UP Honor Flight http://www.upperpeninsulahonorflight.org/. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Roman family.

    It was always an honor to stand the flag line with Ann. She was a wealth of knowledge when it came to Veterans.

    Our deepest sympathy, Annie always was there for you when you needed help. She was so kind and giving. We lost a good one when god took Annie home. She will be missed.

    Rest in Peace Sister Ann. May your ride to heaven be filled with the sun in your face, the wind at your back, a smooth road and a heart full of smiles. May you receive your deserving reward for a life full of giving. You will be missed but never forgotten, always in my prayers.

    Ann had a huge heart for those in need. She also had a huge presence to anyone she had to be persuaded to see things her way!
    She may have been the best hugger ever!

    I worked with Annie many years ago in the ER at St Francis for several years and hadn’t seen her in years but then saw her at my Uncle Rene’s funeral a couple years ago as she stood guard outside… He was a Veteran and she was there with her group to honor him at the funeral home and then again at the church and cemetary. We recognized each other after all those years and caught up outside the funeral home and it was so good seeing her again…. Thoughts and prayers to her family… She was a wonderful person who gave her all in whatever she did…

    Ann was a very special friend, and we stood many Flag Lines together, rode many miles on the motorcycles together, talk alot on the phone, did several Honor Flights excorts together, had several meals together, she had a heart of gold, she will be sadly miss by me, my deepest condolences to her family, and Nancy, may she rest at peace.

    I have known Ann for at least 65 years. She was so much like her Mother and she followed her Aunt in helping all Vets. A good woman. I would also mention that I am a friend of her brother Jim. I send my condolences to him .

    Ann had such a generous heart and a ready smile and was completely dedicated to every project she volunteered for. I feel privileged to have known her. She will be missed.

    Nancy and family, Ann was a true American. She walked the walk and talked the talk like a true volunteer with all the groups she belonged to. We felt honored to stand with her in flag lines or helping at a food distribution. Take comfort knowing that she is at peace. Love Sue and Weed Rivard

    Annie, you were so special in the lives of so many people in Delta County and beyond. I had the pleasure of working 33 years with you on the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund and 25 years on the veterans Christmas food drive. The number of veterans and their families you were able to help is in the thousands. My family has lost a very special friend. We love you Annie. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Nancy.

    Ann was one of the best people i know. She will be sorely missed by me. When i was new to the U.P. and to the patriot guard, Ann helped me alot, both as a veteran, and as a new person in the patriot guard. She made me feel the love and respect she had for the community and the people in it. There will never be another person like her. My deepest condolences to Nancy.

    Nancy and family, Ann was truly a gift to the community. She walked the walk and talked the talk, whether it was helping a veteran, or standing in a flag line for our veterans on an honor flight, or helping at a food distribution. She is at peace now, and she will always be in our memories.

    Sympathy to Nancy and Ann’s extended family. She will be remembered for her big heart and kindness. She touched many lives and her spirit will live on. ❤️❤️
