Uncle Sam was a good man and a great sport, and any guy who would allow his nieces to commandeer the television for such “un-Sam” shows as “Dark Shadows”, “The Monkees”, and “American Bandstand” without grousing -had- to have a streak of saint in him, too! I will always have fond memories of his sense of humor and his generosity of spirit toward me and my sisters.

I remember going for drives with Uncle Sammy in his truck on a visit when I was very young. He made a big impression on me. He was queit, strong and kind. He told fun stories to this wide eyed kid!

I didn’t know Sam well, just spoke to him rarely over the years if he happened to be in the backyard. He lived next door to my brother-in-law and sister John and Pat Alworden. They thought the world of Sam and his family. This kind, gentle soul will be deeply missed by many. RIP Sam. You’ve been in my thoughts and prayers.

Riding with Uncle Sammy on his gas route in 1969-70 are some the earliest happy memories I have of being kid. A cup of extremely “milked-down” coffee at Grandma’s table, then and climbing into his truck and sitting high above the street in the passanger seat of his Standard Oil truck made me feel very important.

My Uncle Sammy was someone we could always depend on to be SAMMY. He was always fun and patient with my sisters and me during the times we stayed at his and my grandmothers house when we were younger. He enabled his family to have peace of mind knowing that our grandmother was always in good hands while she was alive. We will miss his sense of humor and rock hard stability in our lives.

Dear Janet,
They say as the years go by, the memory is the first to go. I am almost certain that you had a brother named Sam and he used to pick you up for lunch at my house every day when we went to GHS. I’m almost sure Sam is your brother and wanted to send to you and your family my sympathy and love. I know the hole in your heart losing a loved one can make, as I have lost so many of my loved ones over the years. We are told time heals; yes, I believe this but it certainly doesn’t stop the lonely ache and past memories we must constantly struggle with. Know you are in my thoughts.
