Kathleen L. “Katy” Vanderlinden, 91, of Gladstone, passed away Friday evening August 19, 2016 at home of an apparent heart attack.
Kathleen was born January 5, 1925 in Escanaba, MI the daughter of Harvey and Ada Starnes. She was raised in Ralph, MI where she attended school. She graduated from Gwinn High School, class of 1943.
Katy was united in marriage to Robert Vanderlinden on March 14, 1954 and they lived in many parts of the country while Robert was stationed in the Air Force. They returned to Gladstone in 1972. Katy worked for the Gladstone Public Schools until her retirement in 1978.
Katy’s hobbies included baking and tending to her flowers. She loved having company and she especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, Samantha.
Survivors include:
Daughter: Sherry (Rickey) Johnson of Gladstone
Brothers: William Starnes of Gladstone and Kenneth (Doris) Starnes of Rapid River
Granddaughter: Samantha Coppock of New Orleans, LA
Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Robert on February 14, 2009, brothers, Art, Louie, Eddie, Herb, Raymond, Robert, James, Don Starnes and sister, Beverly Surfass preceded Katy in death.
Katy’s family will receive friends on Friday August 26, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Kathleen L. Vanderlinden will follow at 6:00 PM with Pastor Louis Hague officiating. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
