Gladstone, MI
Doris Ann (McKnight) Scheuren, age 80, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Friday morning, March 11, 2016, at the Christian Park Health Care Facility in Escanaba.
She was born October 15, 1935, at home in Gladstone, MI, the daughter of Elisher and Laurencia (Eagle) McKnight. She attended Gladstone Area Public Schools. She married Elmer D. Dahn “Junior” in 1954. He preceded her in death in 1970. On January 07, 1975 she married Leonard J. Scheuren.
Doris and her husband Leonard, and their family, made their home in Cornell, MI where their home was always lively, full of fun, and laughter. It was indeed a joyous time to be had by all who lived there and for those who visited. About the time when the kids started to begin a life of their own, the Scheurens left Cornell, after a blazing fire took their home, and relocated to Gladstone, MI.
While living in Cornell, Doris found the Lord and became a Born Again Christian. She returned to the Methodist faith of her mother. It was also the era of CB Radio where she was known as “Angel of Mercy”.
After a short time in Gladstone, Doris and her husband Leonard, moved to Flat Rock and went into Adult Foster Care, later moving back to Gladstone, and then onward to Las Vegas, NV. It was found to be ironic by some of us kids, because it was a norm for kids to move away, only instead this time it was our parents! While in Vegas, Doris worked as a “Grandma” in Child Day Care. After ten years of residing in Vegas, the Scheurens returned back to Michigan, settled in Escanaba for a couple years, and eventually returned to the town of Gladstone, that Doris loved so much. They remained in Gladstone for the duration of their lives.
One of the things we remember about our loving mother Doris, “MA” as we called her, was her singing. She was always singing her hymns, and we loved listening to her. She liked to joke, and could take a joke, and at times just be plain ol’ sassy, in a good way of course. She was personable to all those who would come into contact with her, even the shyest. She could make a friend in a stranger. She was a talent of many, crocheting, coloring, cooking, gardening, canning, and babysitting to list a few. She enjoyed entering crafts and baked goods in the Fair, to which she won many ribbons. Most of all, the highlight of her life,

My sincerest condolences to Scheuren family. Losing a loved one is one of the painful things in this world, no one wants this even our loving Father. It is comforting to know that God deeply cares about us and would soon act to eliminate death. (1 Peter 5:7; Revelation 21:4) May you find comfort from these scriptures and be encouraged that we will soon meet Doris again.
