Fred Thomas Wilbee (Fred T.), age 68, passed away Sunday morning, October 25, 2015, at his home in Rapid River, MI.
Fred was born October 22, 1947, in Escanaba, the son of George and Elizabeth (Rowen) Wilbee. He was raised in Rapid River and was a 1965 graduate of Rapid River High School. In June of 1967 Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed at the Plattsburgh AFB in upstate New York, he met his wife, the former Sharon Hansen, and they were married on June 14, 1969.
Upon his honorable discharge in May of 1971, the couple returned to Rapid River where they made their home and raised their family. Fred was employed at Harnischfeger Corporation before accepting a position at Mead Paper, where he worked as a welder, until his retirement in June 2008.
He was a member of the Congregational Church in Rapid River, as well as the Rapid River American Legion Post #301. However, it was the role of serving his family and friends that Fred also valued. Many will remember him as always ready to lend a hand, offer a friendly hello or enjoy a conversation over a cup of coffee. Fred took great pride in his family and cherished his role as
