Raymond “Jim” Maki Jr., age 73, of Rock passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jim was born May 28, 1942 in Escanaba, the son of Raymond and Myrtha (Hill) Maki Sr. He is a graduated from the Perkins High School in 1960. On January 30, 1965 he was united in marriage to Linda Mattila at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Perkins. Jim was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock, worked at the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Mines for 30 years, was a First Responder driver for the Rock ambulance service for 10 years, was a 30 year member of the Negaunee Eagles, a member of Camp “How About” and Camp “Look-A-Choo”. He also enjoyed watching stock car racing and going to Detroit to watch Tigers and Red Wings games.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda of Rock, two sons, David and Douglas Maki, both of Rock, daughter, Jill (Eric) Thompson of Rock, brother, Larry (Diane) Maki of Winneconne, WI, two sisters, Anne (Elmer) Johnson of Oshkosh, WI and Jean (Lloyd) Swayer of Cooks, MI, five grandchildren, Eric and Brienna Thompson, Samantha Johnson, Justin Maki and Amanda Englund, seven great-grandchildren, Alivia and Adam Frappier, Alia, Anthony, Adyn, Evyn Thompson and Callie Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.Funeral services will be at 5:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Allan Johnson officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. Jim will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
