Elwood “Mike” Derouin, age 60, of Kipling passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at home of natural causes.

He was born November 3, 1954, the son of Elwood and Mary Lou (Morse) Derouin. He graduated from Escanaba High School, attended Bay College, was honorably discharge from the U.S. Navy in 1978 and was a retired Escanaba school bus driver.

The loves of Mike’s life were his family, his friends and fishing. He had a great sense of humor, love of life and will be sadly missed.

Mike is survived by his children, Kallie of Reno, NV, Lucas of Escanaba, Dylan (Jodanna) of Escanaba and Levi of Bark River; the mother of his children and best friend, Reggie Derouin of Bark River, his sister Debbie Deno, his brother, Darryl Derouin and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patti Gulseth.

A Memorial Service celebrating Mike’s life will be held Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00 PM at the Bark River Methodist Church, 3700 D Road. A luncheon will follow at the church.

The family is being assisted by the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.

    Our Thoughts and prayers are with his family, Mike was one of the good guys, he will be missed. I knew his sister, Patti, we were best friends in our teen years. R.I.P. Mike, your home now.

    So sorry to hear of your loss. Mike was my bus driver back in the day. He was also a good friend while I rode the bus. He was friendly to everyone. He even remembered me years later. He will be missed. God bless him and his family for him gracing my life. Thank you Mike.

    mike was a great guy. cared alot about the kids he drove the school bus for, especially one natalie swanson my daughter.he’d call her once or twice a year just to see how she has been doing over the years. he just happen to call us about a month ago and sounded great. said he sure missed driving those kids. RIP pat s.

    Mike lived in our neighborhood during high school and I have many fond memories of those years. There was Kanuck , the huge Husky that pulled a sled. Pushing Mike on his Brigestone to get it started. Sleeping out in the shack near their house. Scaring Pattie though the window with a wolf man mask. But most of all Mike’s infectious laugh. He will be missed.
