Sally Stack Fontaine, age 85, of Escanaba passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014 at her home.
Sally was born March 19, 1929 in Escanaba, the daughter of Henry and Pearl (Bell) Stack. She was raised in Escanaba and a graduated from the Escanaba Senior High School. She continued her education at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. Sally was united in marriage to Robert Fontaine on August 11, 1956 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba. Sally was a member of the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish and a member of the church choirs for over 60 years. She worked as a Candy Striper and was a member of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary in the 70’s. She was an active member of the Escanaba Elks Lodge and was awarded the Lady Elk of the Year Award in 1992. She was an avid golfer and a member of the Escanaba Country Club and Gladstone Golf Club. She won numerous trophies at several of the golf courses in the area. Sally was also a member of the Escanaba Woman’s Club and enjoyed bowling and knitting afghans for various charities
Sally is survived by her sister, Loretto Clay of Pennsylvania, her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Stack of California and numerous nieces, nephews, special friends and her canine companion, Stack.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Fontaine, her parents and her brother, Paul ‘P.D.” Stack.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 4 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Vigil Prayers will be at 5:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the church fellowship hall. Sally will be laid to rest in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Joseph and St. Patrick Organ Fund.
