Roger Lee LaBombarb, age 60, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home in Cornell, surrounded by his family.
Roger was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Omer and Alta (Allsworth) LaBombarb. Early in his life Roger’s family moved to the Cornell area were he was raised. He graduated from the Gladstone High School and later attended Northern Michigan University where he received a degree in welding. Roger began working construction for the ironworkers, boilermakers and pipefitters in the area. In 1979 he began working for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad at the ore docks in Escanaba where he remained until he retiredin 2001. He was united in marriage to Cindy Plourde in Escanaba in 1975.
Roger was very outgoing and was a people person. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and maintaining his pond in the backyard. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, who always brought so much enjoyment into his life.
Including his wife, Cindy, he is survived by his son, Joe (Jamie) LaBombarb of Gladstone; his daughter, Jill (Erick) Hansen of Gladstone; five grandchildren, Bobby, Briana, Cole, Drew and Lacey; three sisters, Shelby (Frank) DeVincentis of Trinidad, Colorado, Tina Jackson of Escanaba and Gail (Jim) Nylander of Negaunee, Michigan; a brother, Mitch LaBombarb of Grand Haven, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe LaBombarb.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 29 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Memorial services Celebrating Roger’s Life will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Art Kievit officiating.
