Benjamin Vaitkus, age 86, of Wells, MI died Tuesday May 25, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba where he was a patient. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Carmon Funeral Home in Windsor, Connecticut
I was Ben’s best friend, dancing partner and traveling companion for the past 10 years. I wouldn’t exchange my time with him for anything. He will be missed!!

We have lived in the house next door to Ben’s south-side residence for the past 12 years. Ben was an exceptionally nice neighbor to us and our 2 children. We fondly recall Ben going for early morning “jogs” and marveled at his physical activity level. Ben had a succession of cars that he worked on diligently to keep them in good running order, even in the middle of winter. He was certainly a capable mechanic! On warm summer evenings, the uplifting sounds of earlier-day phonograph records could be heard emanating from Ben’s house. The sound of the music meant summer had arrived. When Ben spoke to us in our backyard, he always had an interesting story to relate and was a cheerful, pleasant man. He was also very generous, often giving gifts to our children. We often saw Ben at Mass in St. Anne’s Church, frequently in the company of his very special friend, Ms. Oleda Alvey. Ben was a terrific neighbor, and we will miss him.
