Glen Albert Austad, age 79, of 10434 Ackley Street, Rapid River, MI died Wednesday evening November 16, 2005 at the Luther Home in Marinette, WI, following a lengthy illness.
Glen was born October 3, 1926 in Sturgeon Bay, WI (Sawyer area) the son of Rev. Theodore and Matilda (Rust) Austad. He was raised in Sturgeon Bay and graduated in 1944 from Sturgeon Bay High School. Glen continued his education at Marquette University in Milwaukee. He served in the Army of the United States from 1945 to 1946 and he continued his service in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947. Following his honorable discharge from the Army he served in the Merchant Marines and sailed on one voyage to Haiti.
Glen was united in marriage to the former Alyce Holmgren on December 26, 1953 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Glen and Alyce had celebrated 50 years of marriage. Alyce preceded him in death on January 20th, 2004. In his earlier years he had worked selling advertising to local radio stations. He also sold advertising for the K.I. Sawyer

I knew Glen when he sold advertising for KI Sawyer Northern Light, the base newspaper. I was in USAF and worked as a journalist on the paper from 1963 to 1965. Glen was a hard worker and always busy.
