Bark River, MI

Kathie Lin Scott, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at her Florida home with her loving husband and daughter by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Kathie was born on December 21st, 1951, in Three Rivers, Michigan, the daughter of Helen Marie Eggstaff and Philip Allen Tunison. She grew up in Colon, Michigan and was a 1970 graduate of Colon High School. Following graduation, she attended Eastern Michigan University where she received Bachelor of Arts in Education. In 1982 she married the love of her life, Randy Scott, in lower Michigan where they lived until 1988. Then they moved to Gladstone, Michigan where they raised their family. She started teaching throughout Delta County mainly at Big Bay De Noc Community Schools and Escanaba Public Schools until her retirement in 2008. She put her heart and soul into her teaching and made many wonderful friends throughout the years while educating children. In more recent years Kathie and Randy were spending part of the year at their Punta Gorda, Florida home.

Kathie fiercely loved her family, and her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a fierce advocate for the UMGOA, the Republican Party, and KrisAnne Hall. She never gave up fighting for what she believed in.

Kathie loved her garden, saving animals, creating music, dancing with Randy, cooking soup, shopping (especially with her granddaughter), devoting herself to God, and helping people whenever she could. She loved rock collecting at Lake Superior and crafting even though she didn’t think she was very good at it. You could find her spending much of her time with friends, her grandchildren, and her husband.

She gave the best hugs and wanted to help everyone. Kathie’s legacy will continue to live on through all the people she has touched in her life.

In addition to her husband, Randy, Kathie is survived by:
Son: Chris (Jordan Handrich) Wallace
Daughter: Sarah (Rich) Sandstrom
Grandchildren: Hannah and Jackson
Fur-grandchild: Carmen
Sister: Tami Boudreau
Special dog: Kody

7 Tributes for “Kathie Lin Scott

Kathie was such a wonderful person, mother, wife, and friend. I will never forget all the memories I have of growing up with Sarah, and Kathie always being like a second mom. She loved so big and always had a caring word or comforting hug for anyone in need. Sending huge hugs to you all and prayers for healing during this most difficult of times.

Kathie was one of the nicest, kindest people I’ve ever met. She was funny as well. I will miss that smile. R.I.P. Fly high with the Angels.

Katie and I lost touch a couple years ago, and I had no idea she had cancer on top of her other health issues. She and I had been good friends thru school and had hoped, since we lived about 2 hours apart in the U.P, to get together but sadly we never made that happen. My sympathies to her family. My prayers with Kathie.

How I will miss my sister by another mother! She loved fiercely but true and you could always depend on her for a kind word and she gave the best hugs! Another angel truly earned her wings!

    Dear Randy and family,
I will always remember Kathy’s wonderful personality and spirit. She was a very caring and beautiful soul. She also had the best laugh! She will be missed. Prayers and warm thoughts to you all.

Kathie was an amazing person, fierce and kind. She was someone who touched so many lives. Always smiling that beautiful smile, welcoming and encouraging. I have enjoyed knowing this strong willed lady for many years, at least 30. My husband and I would always enjoy bumping into Kathie and Randy as we shared anniversary dates. We are beyond sorry for her loss in this world. Our deepest condolences to all of her family. She was a precious soul on this earth.
