William T. Lewis, age 73, of 8752 32nd Road, Rapid River, MI died Sunday March 26, 2006 at the Iron Mountain Veterans Administration Hospital in Iron Mountain following a brief illness.
William was born May 10, 1932 in Girta, WV the son of George and Julia Whyte Lewis. He was raised in Mt. Pleasant, MI where he attended Mt. Pleasant High School before joining the U.S. Army at the age of 17. While serving his country in Korea he received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
His love of the outdoors brought him to the Upper Peninsula over 30 years ago. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and exploring the National Forest of the U.P.
For years Bill competed in trap shooting as a member of the Manistique Gun Club. He was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Walter W. Cole Post #301 and the Iron Workers Local #25.

4 Sons: Dean (Linda) Jones of Goodman, WI; Ed (Rae) Jones of Lowell, MI; Mike (Donna) Jones of Crivitz, WI; Jeff (Lisa) Jones of Whitewater, WI
17 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly in 2005 and 2 sisters, Rosie Mathes and Barbara Moore.
