Christian J. Nelson, age 55, of Escanaba passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the UW Health University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
Chris was born July 19, 1969 in Libertyville, Illinois, the son of Jack Nelson Jr and Candace Carson. Chris was full of life, love and energy. He loved his church, his community and his family. He was a friend to everyone and an enemy to none. Music was his joy and he shared his joy throughout his life. He was an accomplished musician. Chris began his musical career as “Smurf,” for the Manistique High School Naturals and later showcased his talents in the bands NoyZ, Rocket Brothers and Driver. Chris earned two master’s degrees in economics, and taught courses at Bay de Noc Community College. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Chris is survived by his son, Joey Richardson of Munising, his father, Jack Nelson Jr. of Escanaba, siblings, Michelle “Shelly” McCarthy, Beth Moore, Kathy Weber, Jenny Mattson, Mary Shomin, Amy Weber, Robyn Lamb, Dale and Mark Nelson, Steve, Pat, Mike and James Weber and Todd Lamb and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Candace Carson, step-mother, Barbara Nelson and brothers, Jack Weber and Curt and Chris Lamb.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 PM.
