Dear Rodney Dahn Family, and Relatives,
It with our sincere condolence in the loss of your loved one, your family, my relative. Please allow our Lord Jesus to grace you with His knowing that your loved one is not actually departed from you. That he lives on within you, just a heartbeat felt away.
The last time that my wife and I saw Rodney, was back when he still owned the Idle Time, and we used to occassionally bar-hop in Gladstone. He treated us like we were royalty whenever we patroned his place. Times, we still think about and still brings a smile to our faces.
Kindest Regards,
John & Jan (Kidd) Dahn

I remember. Sometimes I remember too well. I remember riding the handlebars of a bicycle on a dirt road in front of the farm playing the game of chicken. I remember the shacks that we built along the fence line of the Plum Grove. I also remember the accident between two brothers. I remember how he would set the throttle on the old Dodge flatbed truck. He’d put it in gear and I steered the truck while he threw the hay bales on the rack. I remember the young Marine home from basic training telling me how he could “gouge my eye out.” So I jumped off the tire swing that hung from a big elm tree, landed on the Marine and knocked the wind out of him. Then I remember having to hide out for a few days. I remember Rod, my cousin. I’ll miss him.

I’m so sorry to hear that Rodney passed away. I met Rodney at Idle Time while working as a health inspector at the health department in Escanaba. Of course, the health inspector isn’t someone most people would look forward to seeing, but Rodney was always very nice to me! I remember him more than most other establishment owners because he was always so friendly and honest and was always busy fixing something or working on something. One time he was putting together new barstools, another time he was re-wiring some lights, another time he was eager to show me how he fixed up the bathroom… I also remember letting him know that I was proud of him for trying to quit smoking. I began working from the Menominee office last August without much notice, so I didn’t get a chance to tell him I was leaving (or to warn him that a new inspector would be coming!!) I hope the new person was nice to him! My thoughts are with your family during this difficult time, and I hope my memories of your loved one add some comfort.

My condolences to you Betty and all of Rod’s family. Before I moved away last year I was able to sit and chat with him for a bit, I will now treasure that conversation. I will miss him as will many. He was a great pool sponsor and a good man. God Bless and remember the good times.
