Marilyn M. Anderson, age 99 of Gladstone passed away to be with the Lord on August 22, 2024 at Lakeview Assisted Living in Gladstone.
Marilyn was born January 3, 1925 in Escanaba, MI the daughter of Frank and Grace (McKinnon) Nelson.
Marilyn attended Gladstone Area Schools.
Marilyn was united in marriage to George G. Anderson, on May 22, 1943. Just prior to their wedding, George was drafted into the United States Army. He served in European campaigns during WW II. After returning Marilyn and George resided in Gladstone. Marilyn was a homemaker, and they raised five children.
Marilyn enjoyed reading and knitting. She especially enjoyed knitting baby sweaters for her grandchildren. Marilyn also looked forward to her travels with George visiting her daughter Judy, husband, and grandchildren who resided in California and later South Carolina at the times son-in-law was stationed there in the military.
She also took up painting in her sixties, by watching and learning from Bob Ross on television. Marilyn loved people and loved spending time with her family. She was so proud of all her grandchildren and adored her granddaughter Ashley. She resided at Lakeview Assisted Living for nearly 14 years and Marilyn was their longest residing resident. Her favorite things to do at Lakeview were bingo and watching Shirley Temple movies and in the earlier years doing jigsaw puzzles with the other residents.
Marilyn is survived by her children: Lee Anderson of Gladstone, MI, Judy (Michael) McCarty of Atlanta, GA, Ron (Debbie Sheriff) Anderson of Escanaba, MI and Janice Desotell of Escanaba, MI.
Grandchildren: Michael (Amy) McCarty Jr., Chesapeake, VA, Brian (Angela) McCarty of Atlanta, GA and Ashley (Bryon) Pratt of Gladstone, MI.
Great Grandchildren: Jake, Drew Mccarty of Chesapeake, VA and Madison and Keegan of Atlanta, GA, Steve Anderson of Germany, plus several Nieces, Nephews.
In addition to her Parents and Husband, Marilyn is preceded in death by: Son, Terry Anderson and Brothers, Harold, James and Gordon Nelson
The family would like to extend a special thank you and gratitude to the Lakeview Assisted Living owners, Daryl and Leah and all those who took care of our Mom over the years, and UP Health Systems team, especially her Nurse Sara, who took care of our mom this past year. Thank you Jenna and George of Skradski Family Funeral Homes for your kindness and assistance.
Marilyn was laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery with a private burial service attended by immediate family members, with Pastor Louis Hague officiating.
