Robert “Bob” Olson, age 78, of Gladstone passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 16, 2024 with his family by his side.

Bob was born August 31, 1945 in Escanaba, the son of Melvin and Rose (Abba) Olson. He served in the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam War Veteran. He worked at the MeadWestvaco Paper Mill for many years and loved spending time with his Dewdrop Inn “family”. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Rushford on September 24, 1988. He loved spoiling his wife, was a dog lover, strong in his faith and enjoyed time in his yard tending to his flowers and feeding the birds. He was deeply appreciated for his dependability and known for his supportive nature. People often sought him out for his attentive listening, thoughtful advice, and readiness to lend a hand whenever needed.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary of Gladstone, son, Ronald Olson of Gladwin, MI, daughters, Miranda (Erik) Heemsoth of Grand Blanc, MI, Colleen (Pedro) Garcia of Naperville, IL, Ann (Paul) Olmstead of Escanaba and Cheryl (Robin Lenards) Gagne of Rapid River, 9 grandchildren, brother, David (Sherry) Olson of Marinette, WI and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by infant daughters, Amy Marilyn and Callie Christine Olson, his parents, brothers, Sam and Carl Olson and his sister, Mary Ness.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 21 from 1:00 to 2:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM. A luncheon will follow at the Dewdrop in Gladstone. Bob will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery at 5:30 PM with Military Honors.

    I’m so very sorry to hear Bob passed. He and I played a lot of the game Words With Friends and he beat me quite often. Also we both worked at the Papermill. My condolences to his entire family!

    Bob was an amazing man, a good friend and a loyal customer. When i started at the DewDrop he was one of my first regulars and I couldn’t have asked for a better listener, he quickly became a friend.
