After an honorable discharge Jahne remained in Hawaii, working for the Department of Public Health for twenty-three years until her retirement. Jahne loved the beauty of the islands and lived on a hill overlooking the ocean but missed her Upper Peninsula home. She and her long-term partner Marian Olson eventually settled into Jahne’s current home in Stonington.
Jahne was preceded in death by her parents Phil and Harriet Hupy, partner Marian Olson, brother Bob Hupy, sisters Marquerite Hupy Johnson and Phyllis Hupy Behrend, nephews Grant Hupy (and son Brent) and Nicholas Behrend, nieces Sally Hupy Closser and Christine Johnson.
Jahne is survived by nephew Craig Hupy, nieces Joan Johnson Smiley, Judith Johnson Kropf, Katherine (Kay) Gregor, Jeanne Behrend, Jane Hupy Johnston, and many other nieces and nephews, including Bruce Closser and Charleen Hupy. In addition, Jahne is survived by a large family of friends and acquaintances in Hawaii and Upper Michigan.
Jahne was particularly grateful for her “staff”, friends and neighbors who assisted her in her later years and last days making it possible for her to remain in her own home: Kathy Nachtwey, Dee Dutton, Amanda Strom, Theresa Johnson, Cindy Greenlund, Judy Lovell, Jackie Harman, Lori Hardwick, Sherry Schultz, and UP Health System Home Care and Hospice.
At Jahne’s request, please do not send flowers. Please do donate to the Delta Animal Shelter, 6975 County 426 M.5 Road, Escanaba, MI 49829, http://www.deltaanimal.org/ or phone (906) 789-0230.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post 71 and the US Air Force Funeral Honor Guard on Saturday, July 6 at 1:00 PM in the Fernwood Cemetery.
