Eleanor F. Sigfred-Siitar, age 96, of Stonington, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.
Eleanor was born on November 20, 1926, in Stonington, the daughter of Oscar Rudolph and Mary O. (Erickson) Leadman. Eleanor was raised in Stonington and attended the Central school. Following school, Eleanor later moved to Chicago with her sister where she worked for her uncle. There she was united with her first husband, Ragnor Sigfred. In 1967 they moved their family to Grayslake and Eleanor took a job as a seamstress. In 1987 she moved back to Stonington. She remained there until 1998 when she married her second husband, William Siitar, and moved to Rapid River. They shared 10 years together before his passing in 2008 and she then returned to Stonington.
Eleanor was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonington. There, she was in Ladies Aid and the Monday morning quilters. She was also a member of the Rapid River Seniors group. She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing, and baking. She will be deeply missed by so many.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Mary Sigfred and JoAnn (Ken) Stone, grandchildren Joshua (Renee) Sigfred and Joseph (Jen) Sigfred, great grandchildren Payton and Kaia Sigfred, nephews Roland Jacobson and Gary Leadman, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Ragnor Sigfred, second husband William Siitar, sisters Gladys Jacobson and Esther Wils, and brothers Edward Leadman, Wilbert Leadman, and Raymond Leadman.
Family will receive friends from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Services honoring Eleanor will follow at 4 pm with Pastor David Hueter officiating. Eleanor will be laid to rest in Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington in the Spring.
