Connie Fay Gibbons passed away Friday, November 25, 2022, at home, with her family at her side after a devastating and aggressive battle with ALS.
Born July 21, 1951 to Irving “Tubby” and Margaret (Alquist) Anderson, Connie was one of seven children. Born with a strong work ethic, Connie grew up taking care of her siblings, working at her father’s gas station in Gladstone, and later working several jobs in high school.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Fred Gibbons on June 6, 1971, and they made their home in Rapid River, Michigan. Connie was an amazing caretaker to everyone she loved. A working mom for most of her life, Connie raised her boys, took care of her elderly parents and in-laws, and still never missed a birthday or celebration. Connie lived her life to the fullest, and she made sure that her loved ones knew that they were a priority in her life.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, hosting dinners, shopping, traveling, cooking, baking, playing cards, and taking care of her nephews and grandchildren. Later in life, she enjoyed going on adventures with her fiance, John to casinos, hiking trails, and anywhere else the day would take them.
After graduation, Connie began her career in the banking industry working her way up to Assistant Vice President at Baybank in Gladstone where she started and guided the careers of countless incoming hires over the years. She then moved on to take a branch manager position at Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union and helped open the Rapid River branch. It was from here that she retired.
Connie will be missed greatly by her survivors who include sons, Jason Gibbons of L’Anse and Tom (Amanda) Gibbons of Iron Mountain; adored grandchildren, Shawn, Thomas, Ava, Morgan, and Ryan Gibbons; fiance, John Bovin and his children Becca and Jonathon; brothers, Leonard (Maggie), Timothy, and Bill (Lisa) Anderson; sisters, Geri (Mike) Hammond, Bonnie (Lee) Anderson and Jeannie (Steve) Hellman.
She also leaves behind a very loved dog, Daisy, and a barely-tolerated cat Lily.
She was preceded in death by her Husband of 47 years, Tom Gibbons and her parents.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Pastor Stephen Gauger officiating. Connie will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the ALS Foundation in hopes that a cure can be found for this terrible illness.

I am very sorry to hear of Connie’s passing. I grew up with Connie and her sister, Jean, is my life long best friend. We all had a lot of fun on the 800 block of Superior Avenue, and Connie was a big part of it. Even though I have not seen her for many, many years, I will miss her.
