Marie J. Hirn, age 90, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba with her family by her side.
Marie was born on November 29, 1931, in Ishpeming, the daughter of Howard and Myrle (Pryor) Sundblad. Marie was raised in Gladstone and graduated from Gladstone High School. On November 8, 1952, Marie was united in marriage to Donald Hirn and together they spent many wonderful years together until his passing in 2018.
After retiring from working in Dr. Dehlin’s office in Gladstone, Marie began working as a piano player and instructor. She was a gifted pianist, and it truly was a great passion of her life which she shared with many. Marie also loved to sing and she had a beautiful voice. She sang in the choir at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone for many years and she also started a 4H Community Choir. She also took part in many plays and musicals with Players De Noc. Marie loved playing out with the Dolie Sisters and also developed a passion for belly dancing too. She played a special part in so many people’s lives, and she will be missed by so many.
Marie is survived by her children, Steve Hirn, Thomas (Wanda) Hirn, Timothy (Debra) Hirn, George Hirn, and Katherine (Tom) Gobert, brother Lawrence (Sharon) Sundblad, sister-in-law Mary Sundblad, grandchildren Robert (Amy), Becky (Joseph), Nicole, Carla (Christopher), Alisha, Adeline, Cora, Samantha (Ian), Samantha (Dustin), and Matthew (Amanda), great-grandchildren Dominic (Samantha), Kevin (Amanda), Cody, Peyton, Tristan, Nicholas, Jacob, Rachel (Tyler), and Thomas (Olivia), great-great-grandson Jaxon, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Donald Hirn, son Jerome Hirn, brother David Sundblad, and sister Melissa (Bob) Hintz.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Bishop Noa Home, especially Lisa, Ashley, Coni, Mike, and Alan for the great care they provided to Marie.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marie’s name may be directed to the First Lutheran Church Choir.
Family will receive friends on Friday, August 12, 2022, at First Lutheran Church in Gladstone from 2 PM to 4 PM. Funeral services honoring Marie will begin at 4 PM with Pastor Elisabeth Daniels officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.

my sister Marie was nine years older than I and I will always remember how much she loved music. She was an incredible piano and organ player and had a beautiful singing voice.
