Annamae “Anna” Nickell, age 71, of Escanaba passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the St. Francis Hospital.

Anna was born January 29, 1951 in Escanaba, the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Moreau) Balenger. She graduated from the Gladstone High School in 1969. She was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene”Nickell on October 9, 1982 and was a chef at the Island Resort and Casino for many years.

Anna is survived by her husband, Eugene of Escanaba; daughter, Becky (Rick) Neuman of Gladstone; grandchildren, Trisha (Josh) Lind and Ryan Neuman; great grandchildren, Lala,
Ashton and Quentin Lind and one on the way; siblings, Greg Balenger of Gladstone, Scott (Brenda) Balenger of Gladstone and Debbie (John) Vargo of Escanaba and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Walter “Wally” and Mike Balenger and sisters-in law, Tina and Colleen Balenger.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Thursday, March 17 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Edgewood Community Center, 1620 Willow Creek Road, Escanaba.

    I am so sorry to hear of Anna’s passing. I met Anna when I was planning my wedding and she was my caterer. She was a wonderful, happy, funny lady and was an amazing cook. May she Rest In Peace. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

    Annamae was a fellow classmate and always the sweetest person. We are so sorry to hear of her passing. You all have our deepest and heartfelt sympathy.

    Anna was like a sister to me growing up on the Skelton rd.. we had so many good times that will be remembered forever , many stories to tell for sure. She will be missed by all that knew her.
