Robert L. Oliver, 61, of Elma, WA, beloved father of Edward, William, and Robert Oliver, departed this life on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Providence St. Peter’s Hospital, in Olympia, WA.
Bob was born on December 9, 1946 in Escanaba, MI, son of the late Edward and Ruth (Tatrow) Oliver.
Bob is a veteran of the U.S. Army having served honorably during two tours of duty in Vietnam. Showing his generous spirit Bob enlisted for his second tour of duty so his younger brother James could return home to his family.
Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and also a member of the V.F.W.
Bob worked as a carpenter for most of his life, working for Simpson Timber Company and Oakville Forest Products. His proudest accomplishment was being the father of his three boys.
He will be sadly missed by his loving companion Peggy Oliver of Elma, and three sons, Edward Oliver and his wife Michelle, William Oliver and Robert Oliver all of Elma. He also leaves one sister, Mary Smith and her husband Mark of Escanaba, MI and one brother, Charles “Chuck” Oliver and his wife Phyllis of Davenport, WA along with his three grandsons, Dalton and Ryly Oliver and Michael Weber. Bob also leaves numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his brother, James Oliver, and nephew, Michael Oliver.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct. 6, at 10 a.m. at the chapel located in Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba with Rev. Shawn M. Smith officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow.
