Therese H. Sebeck, age 89, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 11, 2017, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

 

Therese was born October 25, 1927, in Escanaba, the daughter of John and Delia (Dousi) Hurkmans.  She was raised in Northland and was a 1945 graduate of Gwinn High School.  On September 14, 1946, Therese was united in marriage to Melvin Sebeck, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba, and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Gladstone.  In 1981, Therese and Mel moved to Escanaba where they had resided since.  Mel preceded Therese in death on April 13, 2013.  Throughout the years, Therese worked for various employers.  She eventually made a career at Bishop Noa Home, in Escanaba, as the housekeeping supervisor until her retirement in 1993.  During her life, Therese enjoyed hiking, camping, and traveling.  Additionally, she was a longtime member of St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba.

 

Therese is survived by:

Sons:  Bob (Laurel), Jerry (Annie), and Jeff (Mandy) Sebeck

Daughters:  Mary (Dave) Schram and Linda (Roger) Guenette

Brother:  Tony (Sonya) Hurkmans

Sisters:  Caroline and Rose Lynch

Grandchildren:  Cheryl (Brian), Tom (Dana), Tammy (Jim), Greg (Heather),

Jamie (Lori), Rob, Jeremy (Paula), Holly, Jacob (Trisha),

Jon (Kiely), and Paige

Great Grandchildren:  Troy D., Tara, Tyler, Ryan, Haley, Megan, Kierra, Troy M.,

Kylie, Darien, Jacob, Liana, and Cody Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, John and Delia, and her husband, Melvin, Therese was preceded in death by:

Brothers:  Jim, Bill, Nick, Joe, and Guy

Sisters:  Maryann, Betty, Ann, Lucy, Millie and Marge

 

The Sebeck family will receive family and friends on Thursday, from 1:30PM to 3:30PM, at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba.  Mass of Christian Burial will follow visiting hours on Thursday, at 4:00PM, at St. Joseph St. Patrick Church in Escanaba, with Rev. Fr. Eric Olson officiating.  Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph St. Patrick Parish Hall.  Therese will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.  The family of Therese H. Sebeck would like to humbly thank the staff at Bishop Noa Home for their professional, kindhearted care that they provided to Therese and her family throughout the years. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.
