Susan Mary McGovern Parlato, age 68, of Escanaba, MI and Estero, Florida, passed away Monday afternoon, January 1, 2018, at Physicians Regional Medical Center in Naples, Florida.

Susan was born September 3, 1949, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of John and Lois (Blake) McGovern.

She was raised in Escanaba and was a 1967 graduate of Escanaba High School. Susan graduated in 1971 from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor degree in Sociology.

On October 30, 1971, Susan was united in marriage to Richard Parlato at the First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba. Susan and Richard made their home in several locations throughout the United States before wintering in Estero, FL and spending their summers, in Escanaba.

Susan enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Richard, her sister, Julie McGovern of Escanaba and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her parents, John and Lois, her sister, Sandra McGovern Carter, and her maternal and paternal grandparents preceded Susan in death.

Susan’s family will receive friends on Friday January 12, 2018, from 2:00PM to 6:00PM, at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services will follow visiting hours on Friday, at 6:00PM, at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba, with Pastor Bo Lange of the 1st Presbyterian Church officiating. Susan will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

    Dear Susan,
    I will miss you very much. I have always thought of you as my sister and always will. Rest in peace. I love you !!!

    I know Richard. I never had the chance to meet his wife. I am sure that she and Richard were meant for each other. Perhaps I will see Richard again, one day!!
