Ruth A. Brandt, 87, of Rapid River, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.
Ruth was born October 17, 1930 in Stonington the daughter of John P. and Anna (Green) Johnson. She was the youngest of eleven children and attended school in Stonington. She also attended the Escanaba Beauty Academy. She had worked at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River for six years and Bee’s Beauty Shop in Gladstone a short time. She later started Ruth’s Beauty Shop in Rapid River before retiring in May of 2012 after 41 years of business.

She was Lutheran by faith and she was a member of the Rapid River American Legion Post #301 Auxiliary for 70 years. In her younger years she was treasurer for Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies Aide in Stonington for 10 years and a 4-H leader for 9 years in Stonington. Her hobbies included crocheting and making crafts.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Dale (Bradford) Edwards of Saranac, MI, Donna LaCosse of Cornell, son, John Brandt of Stonington, MI, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, son, David Brandt, son-in-law, Melvin LaCosse, brothers, Henry, Emil, John, Victor, Albin, Edwin and Rudolph Johnson, sisters, Anna Wicklund, Ida Hanson and Mary Johnson preceded Ruth in death.

Ruth’s family will receive friends on Friday May 4, 2018 from 2:00 to 3:45 pm at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Rapid River American Legion Post #301 Auxiliary services will follow at 3:45 pm. Services celebrating the life of Ruth Brandt will follow at 4:00 pm at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Al Schubert of the Our Savior Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington, Michigan.
