Norman “Pat” Moore

Resided in Rock, MI
Died February 14, 2018

Norman “Pat” Moore, age 83, of Rock, formerly of Little Lake, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at U.P. Health Systems in Marquette surrounded by his family.

Pat was born September 2, 1934, in Steubenville, Ohio. He lived there through his early childhood and then moved with his family to Miami, Florida. He graduated from Miami Dade High School and then attended Emory University, graduating with a degree in Economics. It was there that he met the love of his life, Fayann, his wife of 61 years.

After graduation and subsequent marriage, Pat and Fayann began their life in the military. Pat was a navigator on the B-52 D bomber, realizing his love of airplanes in his work. The family travelled extensively with Pat. He never wanted to be apart from his family and they travelled with him across the US, Guam and Japan. He was a terrific, fun dad – always ready to pull a prank or make a joke. His family will miss him hiding under the bed to grab feet or putting on white gloves to knock on the window as Santa Claus when his kids just wouldn’t settle down on Christmas Eve.

Upon retirement from the Air Force after 25 years of service, Pat went back to school and got his teaching degree. He had a series of fun jobs – KI Sawyer AFB Movie Theater Manager, Bus Driver, a teacher at the Adult Day High School on the base and then finished his working life helping run the Air Force Pilot Training simulator. He thoroughly loved this job as it still involved airplanes with the added bonus of teaching cocky air force pilots a little humility when he and the other simulator programmers (all retired air force officers) got to throw them some bad weather and make them a little airsick.

Pat and Fayann retired to Little Lake where they had made their home for 40 years. They enjoyed travelling to see family, reading, going to movies in Marquette and being together. After all the travelling of his working days, he enjoyed just being home with his wife and family.

Pat bravely faced the effects of a stroke in his last years. He fought and battled daily for four years to learn to walk again and talk again, and was a source of inspiration to his family and friends. He never complained and always had a smile or raised eyebrows or rolling eyes to let you know exactly what he was thinking. He was a brave, strong man and he will be missed greatly.

In addition to his loving wife, Fayann (Maddox) Moore, he is survived by:

Son: Norman (Jen) Moore, Jr. of Gladstone, MI
3 Daughters: Pam (David) Ballard of Avon, IN
Mary Moore of Danville, IN
Becky (Tony) Carey of Rock, MI
9 Grandchildren: Alvin, Sasha, Jerott, Jack, Tom, Sawyer, Simon, Samuel, and Zachary.

Pat was preceded in death by his Parents, infant Brother, and 3 Sisters.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Military Rites will be presented at 4:00 PM and Funeral Services will follow at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Moore family.
