Resided in Gladstone, MI
Died April 27, 2019

Nancy McClinchy, age 86, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully Saturday morning April 27, 2019 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba.

Nancy was born June 22 1932, in Munising, MI, the daughter of Earl and Ida (Russell) Cole. Nancy graduated from Gladstone High School. Although living in Gladstone, Nancy spent many summers in Munising with her father who worked as a commercial fisherman. Her first job was at Dehlin’s Drug Store in Gladstone, working the soda counter. In later years, she worked at King Optical, St. Vincent DePaul, and then as an optical dispenser at Drew Optical and the Garret Eye Center. Nancy loved to visit with all the customers, as she adjusted their glasses. Many of the customers would request her by name because she took such pride in her work.

Nancy loved to read and listen to all kinds of music. She also enjoyed what she called “spnortin” with her grandkids. “Spnortin” consisted of, packing a picnic lunch and either going to rummage sales or going for a ride to Autrain, Munising or Garden. In her younger years, as a new mother, she enjoyed drawing and making her own paper dolls for her daughters.

2 Tributes for “Nancy McClinchy

I am so sorry for your loss. Nancy was a good friend and we worked together for Dr. Keskey in Rapid River. I remember her doll collection; when she aspirated a walnut into her lung! But most of all, her great love of her children and grandchildren whom she took great pride in. She spoke of each of you often. She and I went on a color tour to Iron Mountain one afternoon in the fall many years ago now on the spur of the moment and had such a good time. So many good memories. She loved garage sales and taught me how to set one up. I have not seen her in a number of years as we moved from the area, but so fondly remember her. Always a smile, always caring for others, helpful, and a good, nonjudgemental listener with good advice. I am saddened by your loss and will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

I’m so sorry to hear of Nancy passing. She was always so sweet. She will be missed. Sending my sympathy to all of her family and loved ones
