Michael Allen Hess, age 70, of Gladstone passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

Michael was born May 19, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Alexander and Olivia (Granberg) Hess. He was a 1966 graduate of Gladstone High School. He served in the United Sates Army from 1967 to 1969. Michael worked for the United States Postal Service in Minneapolis, Minnesota for over 25 years. He returned to Gladstone and was a member of the First Lutheran Church , where he served as a former Council President and was a member of the Gladstone Yacht Club. He was a ferocious reader and enjoyed jazz music and trivia.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Amber (Chris) Soderman of Gladstone; grandchildren, Rachel, Claire, Sarah and Gus; brothers, Donald (Katina) Hess of Gladstone, Ronald (Rebecca) Hess of Gladstone and Robert Hess of Escanaba and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-Sue Hess-Polowski and a nephew, Tom Hess.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 13 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Military Honors will be presented at 3:30 PM by the Gladstone American Legion. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM with Tom Otis, Pastor officiating. A luncheon will be served in the fellowship hall. Michael will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.

The Hess family is being assisted by the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.

    my deepest sympathies for your loss. mike and I were friends all thru high school. he was a very dear friend. I can’t really express just how sorry I am that mike has died. we reconnected some years ago and it was with great sadness that I learned of his passing. I will miss him. I will indeed. prayers for his family.
