Melba “Millie” Young

Resided in Gladstone, MI
Died June 30, 2019

Melba “Millie” Young, age 90, of Gladstone, passed away surrounded by her family Sunday, June 30, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Rapid River.

Millie was born March 25, 1929, in Cornell, MI, the daughter of Mose and Viola (Couillard) LaCarte. She was the ninth child born to Mose and Viola (Couilliard) LaCarte. Before meeting and marrying, George Young, she worked at St Francis Hospital and the local Busy Bee Cafe. She and George were married 69 years.

Millie was a devoted wife and mother to her three children, Sandy, Donna and Clifford. She worked hard her entire life maintaining her home and family. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t do from making the most delicious cinnamon rolls to rewiring a plug for a lamp. She took great pride in caring for her home; so much so that she took care of other families homes as if they were her own.

Throughout the years she enjoyed the company of friends, bingo with the girls, traveling across the United States with George and friends, and her growing family of grandchildren.
Never having known her own mother who died before she was three, Millie focused on her own family. She cared for her husband until he passed in 2015.
It was with great love and thankfulness that her children cared for her until her passing. Thank you mom for teaching and showing us about love of family. We love you.

6 Tributes for “Melba “Millie” Young

So sorry to hear of your moms passing. No matter how old they are, they’re your mom and it hurts. God bless you all. In sympathy and love. Dave & Joetta

    Dear Sandy, Donna & Cliff,
It’s hard to find the words to let you know how sad my heart is for the three of you and your families. I’ve watched you care for your mom (and your dad) for years. You have followed in your mom’s footsteps … keeping her legacy of love and caring alive. That close family bond meant everything to your parents. They left this world knowing that you would continue to care for each other. Nothing could make your mom (and dad) happier or more proud. I will always remember our mothers sitting in our kitchen at 1114 Wisconsin Avenue … talking, laughing and smoking cigarettes. They were both full of life and always made me smile! Those are the memories we will always hold dear to our hearts. I will forever remember your mom and dad with great fondness. When people talk about “good” people … Millie and George Young fit the bill. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this very difficult and sad time. You have my deepest sympathy.

My condolences to Sandy, Donna & family, and my old softball & fishing buddy Cliff on Millie’s passing. You will always remember the good times with both her and your Dad as time moves on. Be well and God Bless.
