Marcus Edward Ahlgren, age 63, of Rock, passed away early Saturday morning, August 24, 2019, at U.P. Health System in Marquette.

Marcus was born April 29, 1956, in Escanaba, the son of Edward and Darlene (Hill) Ahlgren. He was raised in Rock and was a graduate of Rock High School.

After high school, Marcus went on to receive his Bachelor degree in Mining Engineering from Michigan Tech University. On August 12, 1978, while in his last year of college, Marcus was united in marriage to the former Annis “Annie” Cole at Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock.

After graduation, Marcus went to work for C.F & I. Steel, as a Mining Engineer, in Trinidad, CO. He later accepted a position as a Procurement Engineer for Ohio Edison in Akron, OH. Marcus eventually transferred to Richmond, OH, where he worked as a Mine Foreman for Ohio Edison, before returning to the Upper Peninsula where he has resided since. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends.

Kelly Jean Porath of Gladstone, MI
Brothers: Rick Ahlgren of Rock, MI
Michael Ahlgren of Jacksonville, FL
Sister: Janice (Rick) Tyni of Little Lake, MI
Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marcus’ parents, Edward and Darlene, and sister, Barbara Porath preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Marcus will be held privately by his family. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.

    There came a little bush head and later the Goober T. No one could predict how they would capture your heart and your wife’s to such a degree. The paths all traveled lead to you giving them a true home. A safe place that you designed that they could call their own. The wisdom, lessons, failures and hurts along the way. Just knowing we would have you, that was enough to make our own way. To say we will miss you, is words that can’t be conveyed. It’s a loss that is great within our hearts, especially when we need your wisdom should we lose our way. I will miss you my dear uncle. I hope I have made you proud. Thank you for all you have done for me. May your place in heaven be profound.

    Annie, so sorry to hear of Marcus’ passing. Remember the happy good times and they will make you smile. Our best to you and your family during this time of sadness.

    This is not the sort of news you ever want to hear about friends. Annie, I am so very sorry for your loss. You and all of the extended family are in my thoughts and prayers.

    We grew up across the road from each other and traveled Holly and Homestead Roads on our bicycles, although at that time the roads never had names attached. We both played on the same football team for the Rock Little Giants for 2 years ’70 & 71, as I graduated in 1972 and Mark in 1974. Our paths changed and we didn’t stay connected after High School but did have a chance
    to occasionally cross paths. I really will remember playing baseball at Moo Moo Algren’s and football with Manfred (the dog) being
    Mark, Rick’s & Mike’s best blocker and tackler. My deepest sympathy to Marcus family.
