M. Yvonne “Teach” Fleissner, age 80, of Escanaba, MI, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Powers, MI.

Yvonne was born September 8, 1937 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Ralston and Irene Barnhart. Yvonne was a wife, mother, registered nurse, teacher, mentor, and friend.

Yvonne’s compassion for others went beyond her family and touched the lives of countless high school students through her years working at the Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District (DSISD) as a Vocational Instructor in the Health Services field.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Fleissner.

Son: Michael Fleissner of Agat, Guam
4 Daughters: Judy Fleissner of Seattle, WA
Jill Hirn of Fridley, MN
Sue Markham of Melbourne, FL
Mary Fleissner of Powers, MI
9 Grandchildren
And 1 Sister: Frances Grazal of Plymouth, MI

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Fleissner family.

    Our sympathy to Yvonne’s family on her passing. She taught in the room next to mine and we became very good friends. She was so proud of all of her children and talked of them often.

    I’m sorry to hear about your mom. What a nice lady and fun teacher she was. I remember learning medical terms in her class and she introduced me to toasted bagels, cream cheese with garlic salt on them. I eat them to this day and when I do I think of her. Believe it or not, I am now working for physicians and use some of those words in my professional life.

    Mary, Sorry for your loss , I know how hard it is because I lost both of my parents last year. With your strong faith and all that you did for your mom and being a close family helps some. Take care and God Bless you and your family.

    Very sorry for your loss! I have many fond memories of “Teach” as she liked to be called! I was in her Health Occupations class in 1990 and learned SO much from her! I later became a RN and was glad to already know so many of the skills that she taught us. She will remain in my heart and memories forever!

    My deepest condolences to the Fleissner family. Teach was a big influence on me in my high school years. I spent my junior and senior year, (1/2 day classes) in her Heath Occupations class at Bay College. She was a wonderful lady. We had many competitions that we won in Local, state, and Regional levels. Myself and Gina Degnan who went to Texas to compete and placed 3rd, in first aid and cpr, in our senior year that made her proud of us! She taught us everything we know about health occupations. She made it fun to be in her class.

    My husband, Hal and I were in her ISD class. We love “ Teach”. She was very special to us and holds a place in our hearts. She was so very fun and her stories we the best. She was also no nonsense and had high expectations for us. She impacted positively on all her students no matter what career path we took. Because of her I decided to follow my heart to be a nurse. I am thankful she was my teacher for two years when I needed guidance. She was kind, encouraging, a very special woman. I feel blessed to have known her and my sympathies to her family.

    So sorry for your loss. I still have the hand written cookbook with your family favorite recipes in it that she made for me. I use it all the time. Such a cool lady.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I was also in Health Occupations, in 83-84. She made me start to believe in myself and what I could accomplish. She made you think of other people other than yourself. I’ve worked in the health field my whole life, because of her. She touched to many lives to count and there will never be another one like her.

    I was a student in her Health Occupations class. “Teach” taught me so many things and helped me with being the typical teenager!. She was always fun to listen to in class she always made it fun and never boring. I could talk to her about anything. Teach was an amazing lady and teacher. I’m so sorry for your loss. We will all meet her again someday.❤
