Lester Joseph Gardner, age 93, passed away peacefully Friday evening, September 14, 2012, at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.

Lester was born August 17, 1919, in Escanaba, the son of William and Lillian (Miron) Gardner. He was raised in Escanaba and attended St. Anne Catholic School. On August 5, 1942, Lester enlisted in the United States Army where he served with Company C 2829th Engineers Combat Battalion, throughout Europe, during WWII. During his enlistment, Lester received medals of accommodation which included, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon.     I so fondly remember Uncle Lester and his hunting dogs and camping at our Farm. He had a memorable laugh which came easily during conversation. My condolences to all the children, Aunti Jane and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed. Lovingly, Cousin, Lolly

    I’ll always recall Uncle Lester with his hunting dogs and Debbie & Becky. He was a good, good father to you girls. And, how amazing that he and your mother, Aunt Janie, could be together this long as they grew old. Our hearts are they with all of you at this time.

    My deepest sympathy to the family of Lester. The Marenger family have past memories of the Gardner family, especially as my Mother Irene Marenger was close friends with Sr. Cordel who visited our home in Cornell on several occasions. God Bless All!
