Leona (Towns) Becvar, age 94, passed away Monday afternoon, July 29, 2019, at her home in Gladstone, with her loved ones by her side.

Leona was born on Dr. Conger’s farm, in Brampton, MI, on April 3, 1925 to her loving parents, Albert and Harriet (Brown) Lambkin. She was raised and attended school in the Detroit area.

On September 6, 1947, Leona married Keith D. Towns and together the couple gave birth to 4 children. Keith preceded Leona in death. On November 27, 1992, Leona married Jerrold Becvar and together the couple made their home in Gladstone.

Throughout her life, Leona had worked on a farm in Eaton Rapids, MI, was employed as a “Rosie the Riveter” working on B29 airplanes during WWII, was employed at Burroughs Adding Machine Company in Detroit, and held the title of Vice President for the family co-owned business of Rapid Electric.

Leona lived a full and wonderful life. She was blessed with many qualities and is remembered for her friendly and outgoing personality, feistiness, faithfulness, hospitality, wonderful sense of humor and her ongoing love for the Lord and her family. Leona was always a lady in the truest sense of the word.

As the oldest member of Grace Church in Gladstone, Leona was happy to volunteer in any capacity needed at church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved traveling throughout the country and world. Her hobbies included collecting rocks, making jewelry, painting, sewing, crafting, playing the organ and baking her famous rolls. Leona was also a past member of the Delta County Rock and Mineral Club and Gas and Engine Antique Village. There were no strangers to Leona, just people she hadn’t met yet. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her husband Jerry, Leona is survived by:
Sons: Ronald (Laurel) Towns, Donald (Cheryl) Towns, and
Steven (Penny) Towns
Daughter: Michele (Rod) Kamin
Stepson: Tom (Michele) Becvar
Stepdaughters: Karen Becvar, Kathy Ryan and
Dr. Karol (Lee) Hendrickson
Also surviving are Leona’s 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and her nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Harriet and her husband Keith D. Towns:
Brothers: LeRoy, Curtis, and Floyd Lambkin
Sister: Valery Wieland
Infant son: Karl Roy Towns
Infant daughter: Valerey Kathy Jean Towns
Adopted daughter: Jeanette M. Towns
Stepson in law: James Ryan

Leona’s family will receive friends on Wednesday August 7, 2019, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, at Grace Church in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow visiting hours on Wednesday, at 4:00PM, at Grace Church in Gladstone, with Pastor Jon Potes officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Grace Church Fellowship Hall. Leona will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting with arrangements.
