John Thomas Whybrew, age 82, of Rapid River, MI, passed away Tuesday morning August 8, 2017 at home following a lengthy illness.

John was born June 21, 1935 on the family farm in Rapid River the son of Albert and Genevieve (Wylie) Whybrew. He was raised on the family farm in Rapid River and graduated in 1954 from Rapid River High School. John continued his education at the M.S.U. Agriculture School.

John was united in marriage to the former Victoria Micheau on October 22, 1966 at the St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River. They made their home on the Whybrew farm where they raised their 4 children.

In his younger years, John was active in 4-H and later taught 4-H. Farming and family was his life. He also enjoyed hunting and motorcycle riding. John loved all animals but had a special fondness for his dogs and cows. He will be sadly missed.

Elizabeth (Carl) Beyne of Marquette, MI

12 grandchildren:
Amber (Adam) Wert, Jace (Chelsea) Dalgord, Michael Hill, John Dalgord, Deidre (Vinnie) Hill, Jordan (Nathan) Jarvi, Joseph Dalgord, Holli Hill, Taylor Hedges, Hunter Hill, Weston Hedges and Zachary (Akasha) Pohja.

7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and many cousins also survive

John’s family will receive friends on Friday August 11, 2017 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of John Thomas Whybrew will follow at 5:30 pm at the Rapid River Congregational Church with Pastor Bill Rafuse officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Rapid River Congregational Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will take place Saturday at 10:00 am at the Rapid River Cemetery

    I was saddened to hear of John’s passing. Deer camp will never be the same. I will always treasure the time spent with Farmer John over coffee at camp. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. Norm Gerow and family.

    I was so sad to read of John’s passing in the Daily Press today. I feel lucky to have met him a couple of times at Randall family occasions. He was seemed very charming with a great sense of humor. May you always carry happy memories of your time together.
