Joe Maki, age 52, of Gladstone passed away on Friday morning, August 3, 2018 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Joe was born May 24, 1966 in Escanaba, the son of Aino and Berta (Sinnaeve ) Maki. He was united in marriage to Maria “Mia” Waeghe on August 7, 1998 in Gladstone. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and worked for Pisces Industries. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, four wheeling, snowmobiling, playing music and spending time with his family.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mia Maki of Gladstone, his son, James “Jimmer” Maki of Gladstone; mother, Berta Maki of Gladstone; brother, Paul Maki of Garth Point; sisters, Marcella (Gary) Chouinard, Mary Ellen (Don) Dausey and Theresa Martin, all of Gladstone and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Nicholas and his father, Aino Maki.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 10 at 6:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall.

The family is being assisted by the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.

    I would like to send my sympathy to Mia and Jimmer on your loss. I pray God will give you strength and healing in your time of sorrow. Although I didn’t know Joe that well I know he was a great husband, father and son! God speed.

    I worked with Joe for a few years at Pisces. He was always so nice and helpful and was a pleasure to work with. Sending prayers and sympathy to your family during this difficult time.
