Janet H. (Platteter) Johnson, age 99, died peacefully on February 11, 2018 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba, Michigan.

Janet was born in Stratford, WI on December 18, 1918, daughter of James J. Platteter and Teresa (Hayes) Platteter. The family moved to Kingsford, MI in 1927. Janet graduated from Kingsford High School in 1933.

In 1938 she married Clarence Johnson of Beechwood, MI. They lived for many years in Iron River, MI, where they raised their daughter Janice (Johnson) Tolfa. Janet was an active member of the Catholic community, enjoyed volunteering, and also worked for the Chrysler Corporation for over 10 years before retiring in 1984.

After the death of her husband, Janet moved back to her family home in Kingsford where she enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, playing scrabble with friends, and participating in water aerobics for many years. She became a resident of the Bishop Noa Home in 2010. Janet enjoyed word games of all kinds, cribbage, music, and often had the luck of the Irish playing Bingo. Janet loved living with the sisters, residents and caring staff of the Bishop Noa Home. A place that always appreciated her kindness, quick wit and knew she was full of fun.

Good by , dear friend. I love you to the moon and back! We shared many laughs, your wisdom, word puzzles, and your ever present wit and humor. I will miss you.

Please accept our sincere sadness at the passing of your Mother, Jan. We have such nice memories of her and her smile. Love to your family.

I enjoyed my time with Janet while she was a resident of mine at Bishop Noa Home. She loved to sing and was so good at crosswords. Loved her big smile. I will always remember Janetā¤

Janet was a good friend of my mother. They got together quite often in Iron River. When my mother moved to Wisconsin from Missouri, I drove her to Kingsford several times just to visit with Janet.

Janet was the joy of my life when I worked at the Bishop Noa Home. I jokingly called her Saint Janet because I saw so much her deep faith, her joy, her laughter, and her acceptance. I would always go up to her and tell her that her halo was so bright and shining and it always brought a smile to her face. When I left to enter the convent she always said she would have loved to join me. I would have loved to have her in community with me. Though I moved away I never forgot Janet and would come back and visit her when I was in the area.

Janice and family thank you for sharing your mom and grandmother with me. Be assured of my love, thoughts, and prayers are with you and for the repose of Janet’s soul.

    Blessings and Peace.

Thank you all for the kind words, love and friendship for our mother, grandma, great-grandma, Janet.

Profound gratitude to all the wonderful care givers at the Bishop Noa Home. She had so much fun there (and so did we!).
